 124th leg: Tuesday, August 23, 2005
AYPY to AYWK, Port Moresby to Wewak, Papua New Guinea

I saw those snow covered mountains when I landed but I had thought it was clouds.


I still used the GPS to navigate but I didn't fly a straight line between airports. Today I navigated by the terrain and cut across one range of mountains in a lower section  to fly over a valley between it and another range.



I was over the valley at this point..
125th leg: Wednesday, August 24, 2005
AYWK to WAJJ, Wewak, Papua New Guinea to Jayapura, Indonesia
Airport: Sentani
1.9 hours

Leaving Wewak. This was a weird trip. It started out fine but then the real weather seemed to make everything disappear for a while, like flying in a huge cloud. So I switched back and forth between clear weather and real weather and eventually the world came back.
 

The other weird thing was the airport. You can barely see the runway on the left with all those trees blocking it.



That was because the airport was apparently below sea level (it wasn't supposed to be) and I had to clear the trees and then dive down to the runway. I don't believe it's really like this. At least not the below sea level part. But whatever.


 126th leg: Thursday, August 25, 2005
WAJJ to WASR, Jayapura to Manokwari, Indonesia
Airport: Rendani
4.2 hours

There was a lot of wind at about 6000 feet. Otherwise it was an uneventful trip.


Over Manokwari.


 

Must be kind of noisy, living in those houses off the end of the runway.
